This will be a collaborative assignment. I would like to you discuss with your partner on the wiki a song that you feel best encapsulates some of the themes that are emerging in the class with regards to war and warlike behavior. Explain your reasoning. Please also listen to your partner's choice (on Youtube, Spotify, etc.) and discuss what, if any, similarities in theme or structure you found between the two songs. This should ideally be a discussion, so please share your thoughts.

Hedges' free-form approach in War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning in particular should be a good source of inspiration.

Once you and your partner each decide on a song please state both of your choices on the wiki. In class on Thursday the 27th, you will both present your choices in 5-6 minute mini-presentations. In the presentation, I would like you each to provide a brief summary of why you feel this music is applicable to discussions on war. I'd also like you to discuss any interesting, poignant, and/or controversial similarities and differences you found in your discussions. If your songs are available on Spotify, I'll create a playlist of your choices and we can listen to them briefly in class while you are presenting!

With that being said, please make sure your song choices are appropriate for a classroom setting (i.e., no excessive cursing, obscene descriptions of violence/sex, racially/sexually/culturally incendiary language. Basically, no Insane Clown Posse, please). Use your judgment! If you have concerns or questions about whether your or your partner's song choice is appropriate, please contact me.

I would like you to have your song choices and a basic idea of what you and your partner are going to talk about ready by Tuesday 9/25.

Once again, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me! I will be available after class and you can always reach me on email.

Have fun!
